School Safety

  • STEAM Procedural Information

As we enter the last weekend before the start of school, please see below for important information regarding school safety procedures at STEAM.

    1. Soon, the district will install a video-based buzzer to the exterior doors of the front entrance to the STEAM main building. The system will allow our receptionist to identify a person requesting access to the entryway between the main exterior doors and the interior front office door. After the receptionist buzzes the person into the entryway, the person will have to be buzzed into the front office door as well. Although this will require extra time for parents to access the front office, we appreciate your patience, understanding, and proactive planning as it allows an extra layer of security for our school building. This video-based identification system will be installed across the district. As a result, when coming to STEAM, please build in extra time to pick up your student for medical appointments, etc.
    2. We will continue utilizing the Standard Response Protocol provided by the I Love You Guys Foundation in regards to school safety procedures.
    3. As a campus (and district), we will begin collaboration with Tarrant County Crimestoppers and Friends for Life. Please review both websites for information regarding both programs. Know that your student can always reach out to teachers, administration, and front office personnel to report an incident, suspicious behavior, or a need for themselves or others; however, these two support programs are available and encouraged. Together, we can all overcome the “three major problems faced by law enforcement: fear of reprisal, an attitude of apathy, and a reluctance to get involved,” and keep our campuses united and safe in the process.
    4. Sergeant Bob Sherman has been assigned as the School Resource Officer for STEAM. We welcome Sergeant Sherman to the school, and are thankful for his partnership on our campus. Look for him on the first day of school, and give him a “hello,” wave, or fistbump!

As we complete final preparations for the 2018-2019 school year at STEAM, we “Can’t Stop the Feeling” of excitement for the opportunity to join with you and your student(s) in creating engaging learning. Have a wonderful weekend, and we will see you on Monday!

As always, if you have any questions, please contact the STEAM office at 817.245.1500.
